Popping the Champagne Cork
Popping a sparkling wine cork is fun, but letting it fly with a bang isn't really a great idea. You might break the china, hit someone in a sensitive area, or just make a mess and waste good wine.
How to Pop the Cork
- 1. First, ensure the wine is ice-cold.
- 2. Avoid at all costs any shaking of the bottle.
- 3. Carefully peel the foil and unwind and remove the wire cage that holds the cork in place.
- 4. Next, make sure there are no foreign substances around the cork. If you notice anything irregular, just carefully wipe it off with a damp cloth or paper towel.
- 5. Assuming you're right-handed, grip the bottle with your right hand and hold the cork tightly with your left, either bare-handed or using a cloth or paper towel.
- 6. Here is the trick! Hold the cork steady while you gently twist the bottle.
- 7. As you twist the bottle the cork will ease loose with a very soft hiss.
- 8. And just like that you will find yourself holding the cork in one hand and an open bottle in the other.
What´s the Trick?
Ahhh...so the trick is to twist the bottle and not the cork. Again, hold the cork steady and just twist the bottle. There you go.
